Why hello. It’s quite rare of me to A-Z on a Monday eve, but I just feel in the mood. Not in an introspective lets-blog-some-angst-through-music way (as I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know), but in more of a ‘yeah, lets play some music loudly and have a bottle of lager, just because I can’ way. I guess I kinda take for granted the fact that I live on my own and can therefore do what I want when I want, but I should really enjoy it more. Not that I don’t enjoy it, but just that I don’t actively celebrate it enough these days. So yes, here’s to me! Oh damn, one downside to being on your own is it’s difficult to clink your glass (or bottle in this case) – I’ll clink it against the CD case…*more of a thud than a clink*…ah, I’m a strange individual.
Manic Street Preachers – Everything Must Go (album)
Ah, the Manics. They’re one of those bands I like, but not quite enough to get really excited about for some reason. I first got into them not that long after Catatonia actually and I seem to remember putting both this album and ‘This Is My Truth…’ (which hadn’t been out long) onto either a birthday list or Christmas list. This is the one I ended up getting and I really liked it a lot (and still do), but for some reason I then never got round to buying ‘This Is My Truth..’ and never felt especially inclined to buy the older albums either. I really can’t explain why though as all the tracks on here are great and I listened to this album quite a lot when I first got it, yet I *still* don’t feel particularly inclined to buy any of their other albums. Oh except for their newest one actually – I quite fancy that! Mostly because I really love ‘Your Love Alone Is Not Enough’, but yeah, random.
‘Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky’ – My favourite song on the album and quite possibly my favourite Manics song. I like the simplicity of it, it’s just really beautiful and I love the lyrics.
Manic Street Preachers – Forever Delayed
Ah, the Greatest Hits compilation! Always good for bands that kinda float on the periphary of your musical interest 🙂 I remember it being advertised on the big screens at V2002 when I saw the Manics and thinking ‘mmmm yes, must buy that’.
‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’ – Love this song. I think it was probably the song that really made me want to get a Manics album actually.
‘You Stole The Sun From My Heart’ – Love this one too! The video was fab as well – bunnies! 😀
Manic Street Preachers – So Why So Sad (single)
A slightly random purchase. In the same way that I found Catatonia’s Karaoke Queen single in Poundland and felt compelled to buy it, I found this one there too (though on a different occasion)!
Manic Street Preachers – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough (single)
I told you I liked this song! This is the first Manics CD I’ve bought in years!! It’s soooo catchy.
I think I’ll leave the A-Zing for today now. As tempted as I am to move on to Mansun, I don’t feel eloquent enough to do them justice at the moment, so they’ll just have to wait.
