Suede - Night Thoughts

As I wrote in my notes to myself, 'well, duh!'. Hardly the most shocking number one choice from me, what with them being one of my favourite bands of all time an' all. Not that it was a guaranteed chart position - it still had to be good, especially in a year with new albums from The Divine Comedy and Cathy Davey. Happily it's brilliant. Musically I think it's even stronger than Bloodsports, though that album will always have a particular emotional significance for me. The accompanying film is great as well - I enjoyed it when I saw it at the Roundhouse gig towards the end of last year, though enjoyed it even more when watched again at Chapter this year, where there was also the treat of a Q&A with Brett Anderson, Mat Osman and Roger Sargent. It's also a nice bonus that the film was shot in and around Cardiff. I now can't walk down Richmond Road without thinking about When You Were Young, which isn't a bad thing. I really struggle to choose a favourite song on the album though - it keeps changing and depends on my mood. Tightope and Pale Snow were definitely up there early on, but at the moment it's probably either What I'm Trying To Tell You or I Can't Give Her What She Wants. However, in terms of sharing a video, it's got to be the first song I heard from the album, which is definitely still one of my favourites on it - Outsiders:
